Volunteer Development
SFSC’s Volunteer Programmes provide an avenue for people who are keen to volunteer their time and talent to make a difference in the community. Most of our volunteers are referred by the on-line portals of National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) and Youth Bank, as well as SG Cares. Volunteering opportunities at SFSC include helping out in our Sembawang Student Care Centre, Mentoring Programme, kidsREAD Programme and various ad-hoc programmes. Support and training will be looked into to assist volunteers to help others in need.
Mentoring Programme
The Mentoring Programme was introduced in 2010 in consideration of the needs of the low-income families who are receiving services from SFSC. The programme provides an opportunity for volunteers and children from these families to build a trusting relationship which lays the platform for volunteers to impart their knowledge and skills to the children, creates a conducive environment to allow learning to take place between the children and volunteers, and provides academic and social support to the children.
The programme is held on a weekly basis on every Tuesday evening (excluding school holidays and public holidays) at SFSC from 7.00pm to 8.45pm, during which the volunteers and children who are primarily at primary school level get to interact with each other through homework coaching and games/activities.
